HYKIT is a new venture focused on developing hydrogen infrastructure solutions for heavy machinery and transportation. With its 2025 launch from it’s state-of-the-art HQ in Oxfordshire UK, HYKIT will design and produce compressors, storage systems, and mobile refuelling units.

A Joint Initiative for Hydrogen Deployment

HYKIT is a collaboration between the private net-zero investment fund HYCAP, the net-zero conglomerate HydraB Group, and construction machinery manufacturing titans JCB. The venture aims to support the adoption of hydrogen in construction and transportation by providing the necessary refuelling infrastructure.

“Between us we’ve delivered hydrogen buses and hydrogen diggers; now we are focusing on the infrastructure to bring it all together,” said JCB Chairman Lord Bamford.

Industry Collaboration with JCB

HYKIT’s solutions will be developed in coordination with JCB’s hydrogen engineering division, leveraging JCB’s experience in hydrogen combustion technology.

“Machines powered by JCB’s pioneering hydrogen combustion engines are set to revolutionise how building sites and farms of the future operate. A key ingredient in this hydrogen revolution is getting the right infrastructure in place to support the deployment of this clean fuel,” said Lord Bamford.

HYCAP CEO James Munce also highlighted the impact of this collaboration: “Our view is that the integration of JCB’s industrial expertise into HYKIT will lead to new standards of reliability and affordability in equipment to distribute and dispense hydrogen.”

Leadership & Next Steps

Neil Tierney, formerly of NanoSun, will lead HYKIT as CEO. With experience in hydrogen refuelling technology, he will oversee the company’s efforts to develop fit-for-purpose hydrogen infrastructure that aligns with industry needs.

“Our commitment to the industry is clear – we are putting the ecosystem in place to help businesses realise that hydrogen is a vital part of the UK’s energy mix.”

HYKIT’s initial focus will be on trialling and refining refuelling solutions to support hydrogen-powered equipment in real-world applications.
